Let’s look at nature’s colors: plants, flowers, and mushrooms create each season’s hues which are unique and inimitable, impossible to manufacture industrially. Our naturally-dyed Tibetan cashmere will only be available in limited runs because these natural colors vary constantly throughout the year. Therefore, the garments you are going to create with it will always be unique.

These yarns are been dyed with all natural pigments. Using natural dyes allows us to create beautiful colors while choosing a sustainable and eco friendly method that honors our history with color and textiles. Much thought and care has been put into the colors and dyes chosen: Madder Root, Cochineal, Logwood, Indago, Weld and Osage Orange. These dyes are honored for their depth of shade and color fastness while maintaining the soft and of our yarn.

Our denim and mallard have been dyed using natural Indigo. Indigo is a dye plant that has been used for centuries to impart it’s beautiful blue shades on textiles of all sorts.  The way that indigo works is different than any other dye, natural or synthetic, it builds up color in layers, depositing molecules of indigo on top of the last layer.  Sometimes, there are molecules of indigo that are too small to fill the spaces in the fiber, and they rub off with friction. This is called Crocking, and you are experiencing it if your bamboo knitting needles take on a blue patina, or your hands are slightly blue when knitting with indigo dyed fibers.  Crocking is different than Bleeding, which is dye coming off in water.  This is an indication of dye that has not been properly set.  Crocking is perfectly normal.  All precautions have been taken to minimize it’s occurrence as much as possible, but if it does, simply wash your hands and it will come right off.  After you have finished your knitting project, give it a warm soapy bath and all the loose molecules that have been roughed up will wash away.  Your item will remain stable.  We recommend using metal needles when working with Indigo dyed yarn, wooden needles will remain blue. (Metal can be wiped with soap and water)
