Mollig Hat

“My designs are always inspired by nature, such as the organic shapes of leaves and berries, or the texture of moss lichen on bark. When designing the hat, I was thinking about walking in the freezing cold, especially in the morning, when every blade of grass and every branch is covered with a fine layer of frost. I wanted to create a garment that is inspired by the unique atmosphere and muted color palette of such scenery. One side is covered with colorful abstract shapes, while the other side is mostly plain with only three shapes. You can play with both sides, fold the brim or not, depending on your mood or your daily color scheme.”
Mollig is a reversible double-layered hat, knitted in stockinette stitch using a Seamless Intarsia technique in the round (see Special Techniques). You start with a Provisional Cast-On for the first piece, which is longer and has all the colorwork and the length for the whole brim. You then pick up from the cast-on and work a shorter, plain piece. When both pieces are secured, you can choose which way out to wear the hat.
